Backbone and Vertical Cabling
Backbone cabling, or Vertical Cabling, utilizes shielded and unshielded, coaxial, ethernet, and fiber optic cables to allow for easy connection between telecom, equipment, and entrance facilities. Backbone cabling is literally the foundation of an organization’s communication system as the cabling stretches vertically through a building from floor to floor in cable bundles that can extend to nearly 100 feet.
Horizontal Cabling
Utilizing a combination of CAT5, CAT5E, CAT6, or CAT6A ethernet and Fiber Optic cables, horizontal cabling systems connect a facility’s data outlets to the telecommunications room, spread across a single floor.
